Golden foliage plays a major part in the border, shown here from the end opposite the cordyline. Variegated Cistus corbariensis ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ forms a golden mound in the foreground, where it covers itself with cheerful white flowers in spring. Clumps of blue fescue (Festuca glauca ‘Beyond Blue’) to its right cool the heat of the red-tinged Nandina domestica ‘Obsession’ and bronze-tinged Abelia ‘Kaleidoscope’. Across the path, brilliant Carex oshimensis ‘Everillo’ and blue pots filled with Nandina domestica ‘Lemon-Lime’ cool things off a bit. At the very back is an imposing Phormium ‘Black Adder’.

Grasslike Cordyline ‘Designa-Line Burgundy’ and plum-hued Loropetalum chinense ‘Purple Pixie’ add drama to the front of this wide border. Bright gold Carex oshimensis ‘Everillo’, at left, and silvery Astelia chathamica x nervosa ‘Silver Shadow’, behind the cordyline, provide contrast. Midway back, an apricot flowered Digiplexis ‘Illumination Apricot’ echoes the fiery hues of heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica ‘Obsession’) toward the back.
