Menlo Park, CA – June 12, 2012 – Sunset magazine and Plant Development Services Inc. are excited to announce the introduction of the Sunset Western Garden Collection™. The first live plant collection to focus exclusively on top performing plants specifically for the Western gardener can be found in select California retailers today.

The introductory collection debuted at Orchard Supply Hardware’s 89 stores and more than 40 Lowe’s stores this week.

“Gardening continues to be a core interest of our readers, and it is exciting to be able to introduce our favorite plants directly to them in retailers across the state,” said Barb Newton, president of Sunset Publishing. “With the recent publication of the ninth edition of the Sunset Western Garden Book, Westerners have more reason than ever to get into the garden and start growing!”

The collection features 29 varieties that address the unique needs of Western gardeners with emphasis on important characteristics such as water-wise and easy care. Popular varieties include ‘Amistad’ Salvia, ‘Silver Shadow’ Astelia, and ‘Soft Caress’ Mahonia. Distribution will expand to the 13 Western States in the Sunset magazine reading area in the coming years.
